Choosing a campervan

Consider the layout options you’ll want – do you want a fixed bed, convertible seating, or a kitchen area? You’ll also want to take into account any special features you’d like such as heating and cooling systems or bathroom facilities that will enhance your trip.
When hiring a campervan with camper_virgins, we offer the VW Transporter campervan. If you’re travelling as a family, or as a couple, it suits everybody’s needs. It is a 4-berth van and has everything you could possibly need for your trip including cooking facilities, seating/sleeping area, sink and hob, heating, lighting, and so much more!
Reserving your campervan
Once you’re happy with your choice, the next step is to reserve your campervan. In most cases, you’ll typically be able to reserve your campervan online. However, it’s important to book your campervan well in advance, especially during peak travel seasons, to ensure availability and avoid disappointment.
With camper_virgins, you can find all the information you need on our website including booking, pricing, collection times, drop-off times, and availability – which is live and fully up-to-date. It’s important to ensure you meet the eligibility criteria shown with the vehicle details (which we explain in more detail below). Collecting your campervan
When you collect your campervan, you will typically be shown the vehicle and how everything works such as the kitchenette, bathroom facilities, heating and cooling systems, and any other features your campervan has. If you have any questions about the campervan or your hire agreement, now is the opportunity to ask!
When you hire and collect your campervan from us, we’ll provide you with an extensive equipment list and fully comprehensive insurance, which includes breakdown cover, so you won’t have anything to worry about during your trip. We’ll make sure you’re familiar with how everything in the van works and answer any questions you have.
Our team will also check all documents and you will need to provide a deposit, which is payable by card only. This will be refunded three days after you return your campervan as long as there is no damage to the vehicle.
What is included with my campervan hire?
The features and amenities that are included in your campervan hire will depend on the company you choose along with the campervan. It’s important to check before you book your campervan what will be included so you can pack accordingly.
However when hiring a campervan with us, we provide you all of the essentials you will need for your trip. You will have access to twin leisure batteries, solar panels, a 240v hookup, and a gas bottle. Our campervans are also equipped with a table, toilet, front passenger swivel seat, and a bespoke Starry Night Ceiling™.
As well as this, there is an electric mains hookup and a kettle (with tea, coffee, and sugar), cutlery, utensils, mugs, plates, pans, and tea towels, so you don’t have to bring these essentials with you. We’ll also provide two adult camping chairs and two kids camping chairs so that you are ready for any adventure!
Who is eligible for campervan hire?
In most cases of hiring a campervan, you will have to meet certain eligibility requirements. Generally, you will need to be over a certain age and hold a valid driving licence. As well as that, there will more than likely be restrictions based on the number of penalty points on your licence or you’ll be required to have had your licence for a minimum period.
Anyone looking to hire a campervan from camper_virgins will need to be over the age of 25, and have a full UK driving licence (with no more than 6 points) that you have held for over two years. You must also have never had your licence suspended or been involved in an accident in the past three years. We will need to see your DVLA licence check code as well as two recent utility bills which match the details on the licence.

Do I need a special licence to drive a campervan?
In the UK, a standard Category B driving licence typically covers you for vehicles under 3.5 tonnes. For larger vehicles, you may need a C1 licence. If you’re unsure, you should always check with the hire company based on the specific van’s weight and requirements. Our VW Transporter campervan can be driven on a standard UK category B license.
Do I need to clean the campervan before returning it?
Generally, you’re expected to return the campervan in a clean condition, with rubbish removed and the tanks emptied. You should speak to your chosen hire company to find out what condition they expect the campervan to be in when you return it.
Is there a mileage limit?
